In recognition of Hallowe'en, we're resharing some of our favorite roommate horror stories from Reddit all month...
We've all heard our fair share of roommate horror stories; some more disturbing than others!
My roommate once asked for the place to herself for a romantic evening with a chef she was dating. He made her a huge seafood dinner. When I came home the next day, there was a huge pile of dishes in the sink. Her reasoning: it was my turn to do dishes. We fought about it for days, as the lobster pot and all accompanying dishes stunk up the joint. In the end, I did them because I no longer could tolerate the smell. She moved out shortly, thereafter.
A Wannabe Myth Buster
My roommate wanted to chill a warm six pack a Miller Light. He saw a Myth Buster that he could use a fire extinguisher. He used the wrong type; it was a dry chemical type not a C02. It was a mess.
The Extreme Dieter:
Not really a horror story but I lived in a triple one year, and one of my roommates wouldn't let us cook at night because she didn't want to eat after a certain time. The food wasn't even for her.
I had a roommate who basically stayed in our tiny room ALL DAY (I'm not even sure she went to class), and most of the time that I looked over at her, she was looking at photos of herself on her computer. And her desk was covered in framed snapshots of herself. Not herself and friends; just herself.
The Sour Milk Man
Freshmen year. His room stank with a smell we called "rotten feet-ces". Anytime he opened the door, it would waft into the central living area. The stench followed him around, on his body or clothes. When we were packing up at the end of the year, he found an old bloated half gallon of milk festering under his bed. Must have been months and months old.
He listened to heavy metal music to 'fall asleep' without freaking headphones....I couldn't last more than 2 nights.
She brought two cats home, next day left and never come back. Cats stayed.
